Why am I having trouble viewing (or downloading) the video clips? |
| There are several things that you should check:
1. BE SURE that you have downloaded AND INSTALLED the latest version of QuickTime on your computer. This is a FREE download (link below). You should do this even if you are absolutely sure that you already have the latest version.
WHY? Because another application my have "hijacked" .mp4 files. Your computer may have assigned .mp4 files to another application (such as RealPlayer or Windows Media Player) and this is why you are unable to play the video clips properly. When you download and install QuickTime, this will be corrected because the installation process will reset the .mp4 file format to use QuickTime.
What does "INSTALL" mean?
Install means that once you have downloaded the QuickTime file (which is a compressed executable), you must double-click it to get the install process started. Once that begins, you will go through the process in steps. At each step, it is best to accept the default choice that QuickTime offers. Once you have completed this process, QuickTime's installation will be finished.
2. Once you have downloaded AND installed the latest version of QuickTime on your computer, download one of the clips to your computer and try playing it there by either double-clicking the downloaded .mp4 file or starting QuickTime and opening the .mp4 file from the File|Open menu. If this works, but you are unable to play the clips by streaming them online, then the QuickTime plugin for your browser is either missing, corrupted, or out-of-date. Use your browser's plugin manager to update the QuickTime plugin to the latest version. If you are not sure how to use the plugin manager for your browser, click the Help menu on your browser and search for "Plugins".
3. If you are using a Mac, do not use Safari as your browser. Safari does not view or download the clips correctly. Get Firefox (link below).
4. You may have pop-ups blocked when trying to use the streaming viewer. Our streaming video clip viewer runs in a pop-up window so you must have pop-ups enabled for AcademyMen.com. In addition to enabling popups within your browser, be sure to enable them in any additional popup blocker that you may have. For example, both the Google and Yahoo toolbars which you may have installed on your computer, include popup blockers which will prevent the viewer window from appearing.
Downloading the clips
If you want to download the clips click the "Download this clip" link next to the video you wish to download.
If you still have problems viewing the clips even after downloading them to your own computer:
Make sure that your computer is using QuickTime to play the videos. Your computer may be trying to use RealPlayer, AOL Media Player, or Windows Media Player to play the clips and none of these will work. To correct this, download AND INSTALL the latest version of QuickTime on your computer (link below). This will reset the default player for .mp4 files to QuickTime.

I click "My Message Box" and nothing happens |
The most likely cause of your Message Box not appearing is that you have pop-ups blocked. The AcademyMen MessageBox system runs in a pop-up window so you must have pop-ups enabled for AcademyMen.com. The Message Manager will pop up automatically when you log in. In addition to enabling popups within your browser, be sure to enable them in any additional popup blocker that you may have. For example, both the Google and Yahoo toolbars which you may have installedon your computer, include popup blockers which will prevent the window from appearing.

Why is there no "Message Box" link in my profile? |
Every profile has a message box link. When you are viewing the list of members who are currently online, you will not see a message box link in your profile because you can not send a message to yourself. Everyone else will see a message box link in your profile (but not in their own).

I have lost my screen name or password, what do I do? |
Click the password finder link in the menu at the left. Enter your email address and our system will email your screen name and password to you. If our system does not email you your information, there are a couple of possible causes:
1. You may have spam filtering that is preventing our email from reaching you.
2. You may have previously cleared your email address to prevent unwanted emails. This is not necessary nor recommended. See the next help topic for information about preventing unwanted email from AcademyMen.com.
3. You may no longer be using the email address that you were using when you signed up for AcademyMen.com

How do I find out my membership expiration date? |
Click "My Settings" in the left menu. Your membership expiration date is on the My Settings page.

How do I prevent unwanted email from AcademyMen? |
AcademyMen values your privacy. Your email address is not visible to anyone on the site and we do not send you any email if you do not want it. The only email that we will send you is our monthly newsletter. Very rarely, we will send a mid-month mailing to make a special announcement - this is done only once or twice per year. To prevent unwanted email from AcademyMen.com, go to "My Settings" and uncheck the "Monthly Newsletter" checkbox.

How do I change my password? |
Click "My Profile" in the menu list on the left. Then click "Edit My Profile" at the top of the My Profile page. Next, enter your new password into the "Password" and "Confirm Password" fields. Finally, click the "Update profile" button at the bottom of the page.

How do I chat? |
To use our chat system, simply click the "Chat" button below a picture or a name in the "All online" list. This will bring up a chat window into which you can type a message to send to that particular man. This is an HTML-based system and works for all platforms.

How do I change my email address? |
Click "My Profile" in the menu list on the left. Then click "Edit Profile" at the top of the My Profile page. Next, enter your new email address into the email address field. Finally, click the "Update profile" button at the bottom of the page. Remember, it is not necessary nor recommended to clear your email address. Your email address is not visible to anyone on the site and we do not send you any email if you do not want it. To prevent unwanted email from AcademyMen.com, go to "My Settings" and uncheck the "Monthly Newsletter" checkbox. One very important function of your email is to enable you to use our screen name & password finder.

How do I log on without being available for chatting with other members? |
You can change your chat availability by clicking "MySettings" in the menu. Check the box next to "Unavailable" and click "Update". Your profile will no longer appear in the "View all online" list.

How do I upload a picture for My Profile? |
| In the main menu, click on "My Profile". At the top of the page, click on the "Upload photos" link. In the photo upload box, click the "Browse" button next to the "File" field. Find the image on your computer that you would like to upload. Select the album you would like to upload it to and enter a title for the image and a description. Click "Upload".
Now that you have a photo online, go back to your profile either by clicking "Profile Preview" at the top of the photo upload page or by clicking "My Profile" in the main menu. Now click the "Select profile photo" link directly under your screen name near the top of the page. Simply click on the image that you would like to use as your profile photo.
You may now upload very large images and they will be automatically resized and sharpened for optimum web viewing.

How do I delete a photo from my profile? |
Click "My Profile" in the menu list on the left. Then scroll down to the pictures that you have uploaded. They are below your profile information. Click on the picture that you want to delete and then click "Delete this photo"

How do I cancel my account? |
There is nothing to cancel. AcademyMen.com memberships do not auto-renew, there is no rebilling. When your membership expires, it cancels automatically. You must manually renew your membership.
